tub/shower diverter problem

with water on I pull up the diverter knob on top of the tub spout and the spout lunges out about quater/half inch. What can cause this?

the spout isn't caulked to the wall and the pipes inside are secured in a half/fast manner.

.......the set screw can loosen under the spout and allow it to slide on the copper stubout.......

"......measure Once.....cut Twice....

throw that one away and cut a new one...."
