Building a 10x12 shed with a gable roof. Wondering if a ridge beam and ceiling joists are needed. I've checked out a few plans and the ones they sell, like at **********... just use the rafters, sometimes rafters and a ridge beam, but I don't see any with ceiling joists. Also, the fasteners for the ridge beam are they much stronger than a a toenail?

Thanks in advance!

ceiling joists are only necessay if you want a loft for additional storage. for a 10 ft wide, use 2x8 to give support for storage of heavier objects.

a ridge makes installation of rafters easier when using stick construction. use the nail plates to pre-assemble the rafters when no ridge is used. either is ok for a shed. 3/8 inch sheeting is ok on a small shed, covered with construction felt and shingles.
