I have a cobblestone walkway that leads to a set of stairs and then to my front porch. The inclice has always seemed a little on the steep side, but after having my mother visit after church this weekend and saying "I'll take the grass", I want to do something to make it a little easier to get into my house. Question: How hard would it be for me to build a set of stairs/steps up to the front porch. I'd like a "riser" to level off to the cobblestone and then back up the stairs to the porch. Would I need a permit to construct? I'd like to have a rail only on one side, is this possible, or does it depend on the area I live in? ANy tips on books, instructions, or accessibility issues are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
