I must have used a 12' piece of crown molding 1/4 inch at a time trying to get it right. I am trying to put crown molding up arould the room wich has a fireplace that will require crown molding. The problem is there is a cathedral ceiling I can't get the inside corner to go around the fireplace right no matter how hard I try.

The problem is that you cannot install crown molding with cathedral ceilings.
Well, I shouldn't say 'cannot' because you actually can, but you cannot use standard crown molding for the job.
The reasons are:
1. Standard crown molding is milled with either 2 45 degree angles or a 35 and 55 degree angle of a 30 and a 60 degree angle.
What this means is that off the shelf crown or cornice molding from the lumber yard is only made to fit wall/ceiling joints where the joint forms a 90 degree angle.
By defintion, some of the wall/ceiling joints on a cathedral or vaulted ceiling are acute angles greater than 90 degrees.
This means you need to get crown molding specifically milled to match the slope of your ceilings or you need to use something other than typical crown molding.
2. The compound angles where the corners meet are very difficult for professionals to get right let alone an amateur.
The bottom line is you'll either need to abandon you decision to install crwon molding, need top special order crown made for your specific ceiling slope(s), or hire a professional to do this job...

There are several different methods of transistioning crow modling on catherdral ceilings.
One is to use a block to hide it.
And other is to do a 2 stage transistion.
IIRC there was a 3rd way using crown with the same pattern, but different sizes.
