I live in a (1800 sq ft.) house built in 1959-60 that has what I think is the original GMC boiler that produces hot water and heat via baseboard radiators. This winter it has been rare to have a hot shower or bath -- the hot water simply does not last more than 5-10 min.

Check of the water temp indicates 160 degrees or so in the boiler.

The repair guy said at the last service that the boiler "was fine," but I am wondering:

What's the useful life of an oil-fired boiler? Should it be replaced or updated? Would an oil-fired water heater help? Should I consider a new boiler hot-water system (i.e. Engergy Kinetics?).

What's a resonable cost for such a project?

Any advise would be appreciated.
