i have an older home with an old central air system and would like to replace it.
are there any advantages and/or disadvantages bettween scroll systems and reciprocating systems?

The scroll compressors move more refrigerant with less electricity, sooo they're more efficient and usually quieter. If the piping is too short () they can transmit noise to the coil. Good luck,Tim
Scroll compressors are more efficient and are usually found in some 10SEER and all 12SEER condensing units. Expect to pay alot more for a 12 SEER A/C system. It uses less energy to run than a 10SEER would. In warmer states I would go with the Scroll compressor, but in the states with only 3 to 4 monthe of warm weather use the Recip. compressor. Heat Pump applications? good Idea to go with Scroll....
