Is there a problem with mounting a dryer vent that comes out of the dryer and goes straight up? Will stuff get stuck? (ie. Lint going halfway up, running out of air, and sinking to the bottom and catching my house on fire?!?!) I was just given a washer and dryer, and need to somehow vent the dryer from the middle of the house. A vent runs from the bathroom fan runs directly over the room I am putting the dryer in, can I just run a duct-thingy up and into that vent??

thanks

Ken

It would be far better if you can vent horizontally or down. You didn't mention if there's a basement or crawl space.
Some places no longer allow new home construction to use that cheap, flexible plastic stuff for dryer vents. From experience, I can tell you it only lasts a few years. It also clogs eventually.

Another thing -- vents used for bathroom fans are usually smaller than dryer vents. You shouldn't tie into the bathroom fan vent for that reason as well. It's likely too small for a dryer vent.
