I would like to cover my existing dark-varnished knotty pine T&G bedroom walls with a thin (maybe 1/4") cedar T&G, but want to keep the cedar as light as possible. Since my bed is in the corner of the room, it is inevitable that hands and heads will touch the walls, so I know I need to put something on them to keep them from turning black. I'd like to avoid the "shiny" varnish look also, and let the wood keep smelling like cedar. Everything that I've tried that claims to be "clear" darkens the wood. Varathane, Defthane, etc. Suggestions?

Thanks for the response, AE. I couldn't get the .pdf to open for me. From following the other link, it seems that Lacquer will have the least visual effect of cedar. Now, if I could just see some samples of of different brands on wood I'd just go buy some.

I wonder if your local paint store would put a few on a sample you provide... I know our local "Sandy's Paints" will.

We can even bring in an old piece; an example was a cathedral T&G fir ceiling where I just put in some skylights, they matched the color up an a sample for me.

If not you can get those tiny cans... but they do want a lot for those though don't they.
