With this setup, can I be choosy about the A/C unit I use, or do I need to use an A/C unit designed by the same manufacturer as the heater?
I assume we should also consider installing an attic exhaust fan to help keep the attic as ventilated as possible. Should we do this before considering the A/C, or just do both and assume the A/C will require a bit less use?
Also, all heating vents are in the floor. It is a one story home, appx 2,000 sq ft. I'm assuming that the same vents will be used for A/C. The optimal A/C vent location is ceiling, as I understand it, but the cost of installing ceiling or wall vents would be higher than we'd want, considering that A/C is only required sporadically during the summer. Is having A/C use the floor vents a bad idea, or is it just not optimal and will still cool a house, maybe at a greater energy cost?
What else might an A/C installer try to quote/sell me along with the A/C unit? I'm sure there are all sorts of things that they would recommend when they show up.
Also, are there liabilities with having the compressor unit a long distance away from the coil/blower unit? We have a long ranch style home, and the only good location for the compressor is at the other end of the house.
Anyway, I'm a novice at all this, and would like to make the right decision. You can only trust the salesman so much. Any opinions or weblinks you can provide to help would be really appreciated! Thanks!
