I bought a house in which the garage was converted to a den. The den has a very high celing and seems to ****s most of the heat/cold from the rest of the house. I have blocked off the vent to the room and have basicaly given up. I want to use the room but need to find out how to fix the heating and cooling problem. I have an forced air gas heater, with a newly purchased electronic thermostadt. Please help.

If you are not using the room frequently you may want install electric baseboard radiant heating. It will allow you to isolate the rooms heating needs. I would also install a ceiling fan to force some of the hot air back down. Harold is right about the output of your furnace probably being inadequate. This would supplement your existing heater without breaking the bank.

The room currently has a celing fan. As well the current furnance is a Trane XL80, not sure about the number of BTUs that is produces. Had to have a service man replace the electric ignigtor just the other day, and he stated that it maybe the fact that they tied the ducts into the main box instead of branching it off the main duct. Not to sure about the accuracy of this info though.
