I have a gas wall heater in one of the bedrooms. The heater is about 25 years of age.

A few days ago a utility worker was over to check the heater since cold weather is coming up soon.

He found a slight gas leak but said he fixed it. Now I am wondering how long it will be before that gas leak can be expected to re-occur. With this information, how much more often should the heater be safety checked? Or is it time to get a new wall heater?

Too, when the heater turns on, it will sometimes give a loud report - kind of like the afterburner sound of a jet engine. I have been told not to worry about it. But what I would like to know is what makes the heater sound like that in the first place. It had never done that before.

Where would be a good place to get a reliable wall gas heater: places like ***** or Home Depot or a local plumbing place?
