We have a forced air oil furnace, about 8-9 years old. When we turned the heat on for the first time this season, the thermostat was set at 70, but the heat kept coming up beyond 75+. I eventually shut the heat off manually. This thermostat also controls the AC unit, and we didn't have any problems this past summer. Is this a problem with the thermostat (can I simply replace it?) or does something in the furnace need fixing? We will be having the annual furnace maintenance soon, would this correct the problem? If not, how costly could this be to repair? Thanks for any help. - Jason

Your heat anticipator should be set at the amp rating of your primary control.(the grey box with the reset button on it)look for an amp rating on the side of the box and set the t-stat heat anticipator at the same number or setting. Try that or replace it with an electronic t-stat but they also have cycle settings ,jusr read the instructions.
