Hello,

I'm considering insulating my heat duct in my unfinished basement. I think a lot of heat radiates to the basement instead of going up into the house. I have a thermometer in the basement and it reads around 68 degrees - nearly the same 70 degrees as the living space upstairs.

I went to Home Depot and they have 12" wide x 15' long R6 insulation for $7. At this size, I will need quite a few pieces of insulation to wrap my entire duct work. I'm wondering if it's worth it? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the response. What about insulating the basement ceiling joists? The first floor is vinyl and can be cold on your feet. I was thinking of putting rolled fiberglass insulation in the basement ceiling. Do you think this would do any good?
