I recently purchased a two family house w/ two gas furnaces circa 1970’s: a steam boiler (lower unit) and a hot water system (upper unit). The gas bill for the steam system is about twice as high as for the hot water system, even though the steam system uses a digital thermostat to significantly drop the temp during the day, while the hot water system is kept at a constant temperature. Am I making a mistake by dropping the system temp because of the amount of time required to heat up the boiler again?

The radiators seem to be working fine – the air vents are working, so I don’t think that trapped air is the issue. Am I missing something? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

When you figure it out and if you need humidifiers for the radiators email me. I hand make ceramic ones that hang on the radiators. [email protected]
