Get a contractor to remove and replace the posts with a proper treated or steel post and place a poly 2 piece over the rough.. or use the classic porch posts.

There are many styles of porch posts & homes so you'll want to do some looking into what you need for your home.

Just to give you an idea go to kingofcrown.com (link below) select "stock lines" and then "turncraft".

I think those may give you the options you may want by the sounds of your question.

Under "products" look at the solid wood porch posts, those look great on the proper age of home... there are quite a few styles there and it will give you at least a start.

This is something a pro would need to install though, you can easily make a mistake on size or placement when it comes to structural posts, and it could get expensive.

We did one a few years ago where we replaced all of the posts on a second story porch surround and had to place concrete footings first and use steel posts which we then covered in the poly 2-part tuscan columns... it required an engineer, and permits. So do your homework 8^)
