What is the best type, not brand, of humidifier to use on a forced air furnace. Motorized with the wheel running though a pan, or the flow through a pad type. I have tried the one that sprays a fine mist above the coil, but found that is not a good idea if there isnt enough height in the plenum for the water to evaporate, yuck, what a mess. Going to add one to my smaller furnace and want to get an idea which would perform the best.

Humidifier suggestion
Did a search in the archives for this, but it seems that no one has asked this question.
Use a flowthrough design. This way there is no stagnant water sitting in the bottom of the humidifier. The media pad gets replaced just as often as the rotating drum style.
OK, what would I use for a furnace that I dont have room on the plenum for the unit, but plenty of room on the ducts?
Put it on the return duct with a 6" duct feeding it from the supply plenum. Take the water supply from the hot water piping unless you have a softener, in which take it from before the softener.
best of luck
Make sure you put in a damper in the small run going from the humidifer to the supply. That way you can shut it down in the summer and loose any air that doesn't need to be bypassing.
