I live in northern ontario canada, with 6 month of below freezing weather, will a heat pump work in this environment for heating, with the rizing costs of furnace oil and electricity here and no natural gas i'm looking for options to supplement my wood heat other than the electric$.

A heat pump works solely on electric. It would kill your bill if you put a heat pump in Canada. They only work well in warm climates where you would only need the heat a few days out of the year.Try propane.
