In have a set of matching furniture - dining room and adjacent living room. It is made of pine, but it has a while underlayment with a light brown varnish on top. The knots are plainly visible. I need to refinish the coffee table, but I don't know how to match the look. Does anyone know whether they make a translucent white undercoat for furnuture finishing?

Thanks for any advice

I think that you are talking about a pickled finish with maybe a brown glaze over it.

Use a white paint or stain and then wipe most of it off.

Then put a clear sealer over it.

Then use a brow glaze or gel stain.

Then a clear finish (varnish).

You might want to put a sealer under the first coat. That make it easier to remove all of it you don't like the looks.

You might want to ask this in the painting section.
