I live in Michigan and just purchased a corner lot house with a lawn that has not been maintained. While there is still plenty of grass it is far from being a lush green blanket and is riddled with weeds and even juniper bush sprouts. Given that this is the end of July, what should be my first course of action for bringing back my lawn.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

In late August kill all of the vegetation, even what existing grass you have. After a fewdays, rake it real well...Rent a slitter/seeder and sow new grass seed. the sliter/seeder will assure better coverage and better germination. Now cover with straw. If you have the $$$, hydroseeding is a good option.
