Is is structurally sound to frame a set of patio doors in 2x4 lumber and place glass block above the doors, in place of a header?

I'm trying to maximize light in a very dark area, but also want to be safe.

You can not sub a header with glas block Unless.....

In a 2x4 frame construction you would need one of the following.

A higher head above the glass. This depends on how high the walls are. Single story standard wall construction your ceiling are around 7-8 feet. for a 6'8" high door you will need at least another 12-13" above the door. So you would have to have a ceiling hight of at least 7'10"-8' to make it work.

Or you could use steel angle Iron between the glass and door.

As always, my addy is in my profile. If somebody has prints or hand drawn sketches I would be happy to look them over.
