I have an old home with brick walls in the basement. There is one load-bearing brick wall down the center of the basement. On top of this wall is a 2x10 beam running the length of the house. Currently there is a 6x6 inch opening cut out of the main beam for a return duct. I need to run an additional return duct through that same wall. Should I cut another hole in the main beam or should I lower the return duct and go through the brick wall?
