Hi Folks,

I have a York Electric heat pump. Last night the temperature dropped to about 20 degrees and the emerg heat light kept blinking 5 times in a pattern.

Our Emerg Heat was not switched on - it was set to auto - but the emerg heat light was in that blinking pattern - what does that mean ??

York installs supplemental resistance heaters in the indoor section of the heat pump. The flashing green you are noticing is a diagnostic code. Compare the frequency of the flashes ie: Steady, intermittent, etc. to the troubleshooting section in the user manual. Yes heat pumps are efficient, but are NOT practical in climates where the temp falls below freezing for extended periods.

Thanks Tom,

The unit was in the house when we bought it and I do not have the manual. I called out HVAC guy and he will be out in a day or two.

Thanks for the quick response.

Your welcome. In the meantime check out York's website. You may be able to contact customer service to get a manual for your unit. They sure are handy to have. www.york.com
