I recently purchased a house that had the garage (very large) converted to a family room. There are also french doors on the entire side of one wall. The room is not heated via the home heater and has a wood burning stove in it. This is nice but I would like to get a heating system just for that room, preferably electric that is easy to use. Can anyone recomend a heating system for a room like this that a do it yourselfer could install? None of the portable heating solutions really are effective.

Depending on where you are located, your cost of electric over oil or gas need to be compared. As mentioned above oil is much cheaper but requires more initial investment in equipment. You have much more maintence with oil that electric. This maintence is completely not for a DIY. There are a few option factors that go into effect when choosing.
