I moved into a new house in Sept and when it go cold had the gas company out to look at the furnace and get it fired up.
That went quickly because the guy said it was a elecronic ignition rather than a pilot and so he tested it and left.
However, I've noticed a good bit of dust around the house and figured that it was time to change the air filter...
When I looked I saw that there isn't an airfilter where it should be. I had, incorrectly assumed that the furnace automatically had one. D'oh.
I have one now.
Did I cause any damage to the furnace by not using a filter for 2 mos?
If so should I get a furnace guy out to tweak it or kick it a few times?
The furnace is a Standard CUB080 or 100.

Evidently the furnace had no filter before you checked it--therefore, the system may have dust and dirt build up inside it depending on how long the unit ran without filter. Also, lets not assume that all of your duct work is tightly sealed, better take a precaution and have the ductwork inspected to be sure there are no breaks.
If there is that much dust floating around in your system that it causes the house to get dusty, you may want to buy one or two paper pleated white 3 m filters and cut it into pieces big enough to cover all of your regisers and then put the fan into fan on, and run the fan in high speed. If your system is really dirty the filters will show it relatively quickly-a day or two and you can make a judgment then as what should be done next.
If its a new house the dust may just be construction dust, from the openings not being sealed while under construction.
