I want to install my own HVAC duct work and registers and leave the rest of the work to the professionals. I have crawl space under my house and my independent a/c pro isn't to thrilled about doing duct work.

Is there someplace/something, [book, manual, ect...] that will give me the information I need to properly calculate duct size, registers, and anything else i need to complete the job back to the airhandler?. Is there a perfect/specific place to put a floor register? Do they use the same size ducts and registers and adjust the dampers for different size rooms? Thanks for the info.
