Hi! I live on a 3rd floor apt. in an old building and the windows are quite small. I am looking for a small air conditioner to fit the window.

The window measures only a tiny bit over 10.5 " from the windowsill to the sash, and is 23" wide.

Does anyone have any idea what brand might make something this small?

Help!

Hi evangelina,

HK has spoken, and with good advice--as usual!

We picked up a $350 "Windchaser" portable A/C last year and really have liked it. It was a Costco cheapie, 9000 btu. Hasn't tripped any breakers yet, knock on wood.

We really have liked it. It works well for us, as we live in a mostly cool climate and there are only (usually) several uncomfortably hot days per year.

We just roll it into place, plug it in and there you go. I did have to make an insert to get its hose to work with existing windows.

A/Cs are finicky about sizing; it is best to buy one that properly fits your space. Too big, it can cycle on-and-off too often; too small--it won't do much of anything. But on hot days, hey, I'll take anything I can get! :)

Regards,
