I am a handywoman myself, and I gutted my mother's bathroom and remodeled it. The only difference for you is, you don't want to put back the fixtures. When I gutter hers, I did call a plumber and he "capped" off the water lines. I don't like doing plumbing, and wouldn't have known about that otherwise. After the lines were capped, I put in new drywall, did the walls and floor, then added the fixtures after that. It wasn't hard at all. I did have to replace a part of the floor, but still, nothing was hard. The tub, however, wasn't ceramic. I donate regularly to Habitat for Humanity, and they will come and pick up your fixtures so you don't have to worry how to dispose of them.
