I have just purchased a home that has a guard rail that separates the living room from the dining room. It is an ugly metal thing and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what I could do to change it. There is a step up into the dining room, so taking it out wouldn't really work. I suppose I could change it to wood. Is that a lot of work?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
