Hello, new to the forum. Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a gas fireplace insert, that will still let you burn wood in the same fireplace?
I currently have a wood burning fireplace, and would like to have a gas (natural) insert put in, but was wondering if I would still be able to burn wood in it if I needed to?
I was told by several people that there are some that allow both, but have been unable to find any while searching the net.
I was thinking of keeping the wood burning option, in case we lost power, but then realized that even if it has an electric start, I should still be able to start the gas insert manually, correct? So I may not even need to keep the wasteful wood burning option.
What are everyone's thoughts?

I would think that if I put a gas fireplace insert in my wood burning fireplace, that I would no longer be able to use it as a wood burning fireplace (How would you keep ash out of the gas burner and/or other parts?). Just my thought.
So an electric start on a gas fireplace insert is a safety feature? That I didn't know. Wouldn't that mean that if/when I bypass the electric start on my stove to cook (when we lose power), I'm doing the same thing? Same for a gas grille.

Yes, I know there is more than one machine made, that's a no-brainer. I just didn't think that the make and model of the existing wood fireplace insert mattered, except for the size.
