I just bought a Tanning Bed and everytime I turn it on, it trips the breaker. The instructions say to have a minimum of 20Amp breaker. A 15Amp will trip. I've put the bed in one of our spare bedrooms until the basement is finished remodeling. Can I just replace the smaller breaker with a 20Amp breaker? The house is only 2 1/2 years old and 2700 sq feet, so I'm assuming there's enough power.

I’m sure you have enough power coming into the house but the receptacle that you have the tanning bed plugged into is know as a “Branch Circuit”. The appliance or equipment a.k.a. the “load” that you plan to use is what governs the AWG (American Wire Gauge) size of the wire used on this branch circuit. which in turns dictates what size circuit breaker is to be used.
So the answer is NO you just can’t change the circuit breaker without changing the wire. Please call an electrician and have a dedicated 20amp 115volt 12/2 AWG circuit installed for your tanning bed and make sure the electrician grounds everything.

The wiring may or may not be #12. If its #14 and you put in a 20amp circuit, the wiring will overheat. The overheated wire will then cause a fire.

Is there a way you can buy an extension power cord to the connect the item? Can't you connect the extention cord from a 20amp socket and run it to the tanning bed in another room? Would there be a special power cord made for a 20amp socket?

The original message is over 7 years old so they should have finished the basement by now.

But code does not allow an extension cord to used for "permanate wiring".

That is a dangerous application.
