I'm finishing my basement and about to hang drywall on the ceiling using a drywall lift. I'll be installing 6" recessed lights throughout the basement as well as ceiling insulation. I thought about running the wiring in the ceiling, hanging the drywall, then cut out the holes in the ceiling and use the "remodeler type" recessed lights as opposed to installing the "new construction type" lights, making the holes in the drywall, then hanging the drywall and take a risk in misaligning the holes with the lights. Are there any disadvantages in doing this? What are your thoughts?

None whats so ever ...... I do that all the time when I'm working on a job with either a lazy "rocker" or an inexperienced one

Sounds like the best, easiest way to fix it to me. That's what I would do...
