I have electric baseboard heat in the basement. It is run off a standard thermostat (Chromalox). We only turn the heat on when we are using the basement. One day it worked. The next day it did not. Any hints on tracking down the problem? I have reset all the circuit breakers at least twice. Thanks.

"Standard" thermostats don't carry the necessary voltage and current to power an electric heater. The thermostat just turns on something else, like a relay (aka contacter) that carries the power to the heater. That's the next place to look, if you can find it. It may be part of the heater unit.

OK Ya ready,....? Chances are that you have a line voltage t-stat controlling this heater. Inside every heater, especially electric baseboard there are thermo disc cut-outs. They trip if the unit get's too hot. Most are manual reset and need to be reset in order for the unit to work.. If your breaker is tripping, look fore element damage.......
