How much should crown molding overlap onto the top upper kitchen cabinets? 1/4"? 1/2"? I've been reading that you should attach 1" wood strips to top of cabinets so you'll have something to nail into. Appreciate any input.

- Crown molding over kitchen cabinets
It's really about the type of door first.
If it's an overlay, then typically it's 3/4 to the crown.
If it's an inset then you match the set backs in most cases... really it's what is pleasing to the eye though with no set rule.
If you haven't ordered the cabinets to allow for crown, then we add a 1x for a nailer.

I like how people can share information online freely and easily nowadays as compared to the old days, where you could only rely on your friends, or call up a company and have them fix it for you, sometimes taking days for your request to be processed before they come down to fix something you could have done on your own easily with some advice.
Thank you very much for this helpful information. I am wanting to install some crown molding on the outdoor kitchens cabinets that I just bought. I am in the process of getting everything set up and ready to go for summer. I think I am really going to enjoy spending time outdoors doing my cooking this year!
