We purchased a home built in 1930 that has several old 2-prong outlets. Our home inspector suggested we replace these with new 3 prong outlets. Is this a matter of simply going to the store getting replacements and wiring them in, or will the 2-prong outlets need to be rewired by an electrician.
Thanks,
Jason

You cannot simply replace them with the 3 prong outlet. The code does allow you to replace each one with a Gfi outlet and to label each one as having no equipment ground. If you are fortunate enough to have metal conduit running in your walls and completing a path to ground to your electrical panel than you can ground them to the metal box and/or pull in a ground wire back to the panel.
