I'm a first-time home buyer interested in purchasing a house built in 1956. It has the original wood shingle roof (not cedar). The realtor tells me that this type of roof doesn't ever need replacing- only patch-up repairs if it starts to leak. I've never heard of a roof which dosn't need replacing ever and am nervous about buying a house with a 42 year old roof. Can anyone advise me?
