My husband and I recently bought a 78 year old house with old "yankee gutters" or trough gutters. They are now leaking and we have been given 3 different approaches. One to cut them off and replace with seemless, one to cover them and hang seemless, and one to repair and reline existing Yankee Gutters. What is the best way to handle this? We don't know who to believe...........maidencat

They are a constant maintenance chore so do not repair them. I would remove them completely, if possible. Make certain that removal does not change the venting of your roof, or that it will not detract from the appearance of your home. They can be patched over, but, if not done properly they can cause some headaches down the road.
