I am looking to install 4 recessed lighting cans in my 9' x 11' in an open finished basement area. The area is under the kitchen and has drywall for the ceiling. I removed a section of the drywall to see that they installed insulation I think mainly for sound protection only. I would like to know the following:

1. Can I use line voltage cans that are NON-IC if I just remove the insulation 6" to 12" inches back from the center of the can on both sides?

2. The difference between Airtight and Non-Airtight Cans.

3. And, would 14-2G wire on a 15 amp cir be adaquate for these 4 cans?

I can't answer your first two questions, but the last question is yes. 14g 15amp circuit will support about 1800 watts and code says to stay 80% or below the total output which is about 1400 watts. I have twelve 75watt rated lights on one 15amp circuit in my basement.
