Bvelectrical
I have noticed some postings on this site that have disturbed me somewhat. There are a few members posting advice, which is fine as long as this advice is confined to “seek the advice of a professional”.

Any other advice of an electrical nature related to the NEC or electrical safety should not be given unless you are a “qualified” professional in the electrical field.

The other thing that bothers me is that some members are frequently giving advice and do not show a user profile including information as to their occupation or any electrical industry or construction related experience/interests.

If you have working experience in this field, I would ask that you please update your user profile to show it.

That will allow the person you are giving advice to, to see what your profession and/or experience is, and to judge for themselves if the information is sound advice or not.

It concerns me when members give advice on “technical issues” (especially when they are electrically related) and are unwilling to share their profile information with other members or at the very least give a brief explanation of their qualifications on the topic. To me it sends the message “I may not be qualified to answer your question, but this is what you should do to fix your problem…”

There are many questions on this bulletin board where your occupation or work experience is of extreme importance, and if you do not want to share your profile or qualifications with others, please do not give technical advice.

Use your best judgment when you are replying to a posting and ask yourself, “Am I truly qualified to answer this question?”, and if you are, please explain how.

Thank you all for your assistance in this matter. We are all after the same thing here: Giving and receiving the best, most reliable, information available related to the NEC and electrical safety!
