I have a bedroom light which is a dimmer switch. However, this light needs to be on for the light in the hall to be on. What did I do wrong when I installed the dimmer switch? What do I need to fix this?

When the bedroom light is dimmed the hallway light is dimmed to the same degree.

Any advice help would be greatly appreciated.
