I had a contractor come out yesterday to give me an estimate on my house. The house is 1212 sq. ft. and the garage is 297 sq. ft.
He wanted to charge me $6800 to side the house. This included doors, windows and covering a sidelight. Is the price he quoted a little high? Also, I have shingles on the house now and he said he would side right over them. Is this ok?

He's using

I don't know if the price is a good one or not, but it's always a good idea to get more than one bid. Some large retailers will give you bids. I once got one from Sears. Also I believe Lowes does it, probably Home Depot as well.
As to leaving the shingles on, I believe that's standard, unless they're rotten.
