The challenge is waterproofing: I wish to lay tile on a flat roof for a roof terrace. Now there is a flat metal pan onto which I wish to lay backerboard, or whatever substrate necessary. Laticrete fabric and liquid membrane is the only solution I've found and is prohibitively expensive. Any ideas out there on keeping the water out?

(Supporting structure has been analyzed and is not a problem.)
