I am looking at a house - had the inspection today - the inspector brought up a concern about the wiring.
The electric panel is located on one side of the basement. Wires run from the panel through the floor joists to the other side of the basement. 1. The wires, about 12 of them, all run through one hole in each floor joist - is it OK to bunch the wires like this or should they be separated? Also, these wires run over and under a few heating ducts. There is no separation between the wires and the ducts - is this OK? or should i be concerned that the wire insulation could melt.

Any input is appreciated.

It is not always a good idea to run so many cables grouped together. The code now requires a derating of the ampacity of grouped sheathed electrical cable cables. However this house was probably built before that code was in effect.
If the wire does not feel warm to the touch then the amperage load will not likely destroy the insulation. If the wire is hot, then you may have a real problem. I hope this help.
