ceiling fan/light--can i have separate switches?

want to put up a ceiling fan, and i ran a 3 color plus ground wire thru the attic already, planning to use a combination switch. Then I got the brilliant idea that i wanted two seperate switches, one for the fan, and one for the light kit.

Can I use the wires I have already put thru the attic for two switches? Or do I need to run two new 2+ground wires? Can I even HAVE two seperate switches with the standard light kit which already makes things easier for the typical house DIY'er with the blue line that goes to the light kit?

What do you mean by a combination switch? I would assume 2 switches on one strap.Yes, you can install 2 switches to control individual loads. Do you have a 2 gang box on the wall or a single device box? You can use a tandem switch if it is a single device box.

If, by "3 color plus ground" you mean white/black/red plus ground, then you have all the wires you need.
