We are about to get our roof reshingled but are somewhat confused about the procedure.

We have a bungalow, with a rather regular roofline....not too steep a pitch....

Problems:
1. Is felt paper necessary to lay before laying the shingles?? Some say 'yes' some say 'no'????
2. Eave guard has been suggested....to prevent ice-damming.....I agree with this but some say it isn't necessary. ???
3. Other important information that needs to be considered??

If you can shed some light on the above, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks from the East Coast

Some say yes some say no. No is the easy way out in your case. Felt paper is more protection to keeping your roof from leaking. So, I say yes it is needed. As for the eave guards, both are right, they aren't necessary, but they do protect from damming.
