I installed a ceiling fan and some interesting things are happening. Maybe someone can help me with the problem.
The room had a light switch but it controlled a wall socket for a standing lamp. I decided to install a ceiling fan with bracket, light box and all. Well all went well with the installation until I turned the power back on and flip the switch. Nothing happened when I pulled the cord on the ceiling fan until I flipped the switch to the off position. The fan start turning and the new light comes on but when I turned the switch to the on position the lamp light comes on and the fan stop and the light fixture on the fan turns off. The connection was pretty straight forward, so I thought. I installed new sheathed electrical cable that ran from the light switch to the fan. Do I need to do something to the wall outlet also. I know longer want the wall outlet to be connected to the light switch and I want to be able to control the fan/new light fixture from the light switch. Thanks for all the help.
