I think I might have a wiring problem. We bought a house in March and when I turn the light switches on, they crackle.
Also, when the air condition comes on the lights go dim, they also go dim while the microwave is running.
One more questions, is there a way for me to tell what amp service is running into my house. I would like to switch from gas to electric & want to make sure I can.
Thanks to all that help. Dee

Take a look at the handle on the main breaker (might also be marked "Service Disconnect") and the size is usally embossed or printed on the end.
If you can't find it there, remove the cover & read all the labels inside, somewhere, one of them will state the size. Do not stick your fingers or anything else inside the panel unless you turn off that main breaker & remember that the incoming lugs will still be live.
Lights dimming when the central air starts up is normal if it only lasts for a second or two.
Crackling soinds are not a good sign.
Lights usually don't dim when the microwave is in.
Consult an electrician about the last 2 items.
