switched/outlet

I want to install a switched outlet so that the switch contols the outlet. I will be replacing a middle of the run outlet. The instructions that come from Leviton are vague to say the least and don't cover this install. Is it possible? I have a hot and neutral coming into the the current outlet and same on other side leaving. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

You can't do that without removing that outlet from the "run".

The other option is to get one of those switch/outlet combinations that simply plugs into an existing outlet. With it, you can switch on and off the device that gets its power from that outlet by operating the switch at the outlet..
