I'm running new 20 amp circuits for a bathroom renovation...sent my step-son to ***** for 12-2 sheathed electrical cable; & he comes back with yellow cable (the package is labeled 12-2G Type NM-B.)

I haven't done any wiring in this something new?

Can I use it for typical interior 20 amp appliance circuits?

The B indicates an imporved installion. Been standard for a number of years.

Color coding the cable in fairly new in the last couple of years.

white - #14

yellow - #12

orange - #10

What you have is standard #12 "sheathed electrical cable" and can be use for 20 amp appliance circuits.

The industry joke is the manufacturers had to color the wire for the inspectors!

Actually I like the color wire now that I have gotten used to it. It makes it easy to find in the trucks, inventory when on shelves and actually see what size wiring is going where!

Forgot to tell you what the B is for--Old sheathed electrical cable used to have 60 degree conductor insulation. The new sheathed electrical cable has 90 degree conductor insulation hence the designation B identifier.
