my condo has stained cedar siding. in the spring carpenter bees bore into the wood (usually the horizontal fascia boards, also cedar) and then the birds enlarge the holes going after the insects. any way to prevent this?

- bees boring into cedar siding
Carpenter bees are really doing damage this year according to a recent newspaper article.Because my house has a history of being invaded I asked an exterminator if there is anything I can do.The most important thing, and about the only thing you can do is to refill their bored holes before the following spring.I guess they seek out areas where another bee has bored and not been plugged.Use a silicone caulk.
