I want to remove a light fixture so that I can redecorate a room and replace the light at a later date. I was planning on covering each of the bare wires with a twist-on wire connector (that is, one wire connector to each wire). Will this be safe?

Yes, that will work.

But you want to use a smaller than normal wire nut because you only have the one wire.

But also put some electrical tape on it to make sure that it does not fall off.

Make sure that you turn the circuit breaker off before doing this.

Also note exactly how it is wired.

In a few case there is are several other wires in the box that might or might not be attached to the light.

Thanks for the tips - it seems to have worked great!
